Ryley Carlock & Applewhite Welcomes Alan J. Gilbert to the Firm's Denver Office, Bolstering Environmental, Natural Resources and Energy Practice

Ryley Carlock & Applewhite is pleased to announce that Alan J. Gilbert has joined the firm in our Denver office. Gilbert's knowledge and experience enhances Ryley Carlock & Applewhite's world-class Environmental, Natural Resources and Energy practice.

Gilbert works most often in the environmental, natural resources and energy sectors. For more than 35 years he has helped corporations large and small, government entities and individuals solve complex and significant legal and practical problems.

"Alan offers our clients an unusually broad set of legal and practical skills," said Ryley Carlock Shareholder Jonathan Steeler, who was instrumental in recruiting Gilbert to the firm. "He has held several high-level positions in government, and he combines that wealth of experience with many years representing businesses and individuals in private legal practice. Alan brings an insider's perspective to some of the most significant legal and practical challenges our clients face with governments at all levels. He offers invaluable firsthand knowledge about how governments approach their most substantial and important issues and work and interact in especially controversial and complex situations."

Gilbert has served as the Solicitor General of Colorado, the Deputy Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar in Washington, DC, and the Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the Interior for the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Regions. He most recently worked with the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources assisting Colorado with the state's flood response and the oil and gas industry. In addition, Gilbert has represented businesses and individuals in private legal practice for more than 25 years.

Gilbert most often assists clients facing major issues with government agencies and large and complex groups of other interested parties. He has long experience in the private energy sector, where he has worked with oil and gas companies, public and private utilities, renewable energy companies and mining businesses. Alan often works on behalf of large businesses to secure significant permits and licenses. He represents clients in administrative actions involving both new regulations and enforcement activities. He litigates in the federal and state trial and appellate courts and in administrative proceedings.

Alan earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University, both magna cum laude.
