Denver, Colo.--The Colorado Commission on Higher Education elected Ryley Carlock & Applewhite attorney Richard Kaufman as its new chair. Kaufman, who is Of Counsel with the Denver office of the firm, was most recently the organization's vice-chair.A full press release is below.Colorado Commission on Higher Education Elects New Chair, Richard Kaufman and New Vice-Chair, Patricia PaceyDenver, Colo.--Yesterday at its monthly meeting the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) held its annual elections for officers. The CCHE selected former Vice-Chair, Commissioner Richard Kaufman to serve as Chair of CCHE and selected Commissioner Patricia Pacey to serve as Vice-Chair. The previous two CCHE Chairs, James Polsfut and Hereford Percy continue to serve on the Commission.Richard Kaufman represents clients in environmental, business, securities, regulatory, employment and political cases. Mr. Kaufman's previous experience includes serving as a trial attorney for nine years with the U.S. Attorneys' Office in Denver. On behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy, he litigated the class action suit brought by landowners surrounding the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant which involved over 60 million pages of documents. Before joining the Department of Justice, he served seven years as Deputy Attorney General of the State of Colorado. Mr. Kaufman was appointed campaign manager for U.S. Representative Hank Brown (R- Colo.) when Mr. Brown first ran for Congress in 1980. After Brown's victory, Richard served as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman Brown in Washington, DC and was responsible for tax, budget, transportation and social security issues including service on a House staff group specifically assigned the task of promoting President Reagan's 1981 tax cut. Mr. Kaufman is a veteran of the United States Air Force and Mr. Kaufman has been recognized as a "Colorado Super Lawyer" by the publishers of Law and Politics and as Best Lawyers in America in Administrative Law.
